In 2009, a total of 75 students – 68 in the United States and 7 in Canada – were awarded scholarships by the GAAS scholarship fund and its contributors. Another 41 awards were made by other groups collaborating with GAAS. 10 students received multiple awards. Individual scholarships ranged from $250 to $2,000. A second round of donations in July was made possible by donations of more than $10,000 at GAAS 2009. In its 14-year history, the fund has presented more than $1.4 million in awards to more than 1,400 students.

- The program was founded in 1996.
- The scholarship program is funded from the
net proceeds of the annual Global Automotive Aftermarket
Symposium.
- Students who receive a scholarship and plan a
career as an automotive aftermarket technician are eligible for a
matching grant upon graduation from their program and after completing
six
months of
employment in the automotive aftermarket.

- The deadline for 2010 GAAS scholarship applications is March 31, 2010.
- Qualified applicants must either be a graduating high school senior or have graduated from high school within the past two years (2008 or after).
- To receive a scholarship, applicants must
be enrolled in a college-level program or a NATEF (National
Automotive Technician Education Foundation) accredited automotive
technical program.
- Participants must be attending a full-time
program in the United States or Canada.
- Graduate programs and undergraduate
part-time programs do not qualify.
- Staff members of Global Automotive
Aftermarket Symposium sponsoring associations and their family
members are not eligible.
- Students must completely fill out the GAAS
application. All school transcripts with an officially raised seal
including high school and post-high school (if applicable) must be
submitted with the application.
- One letter of recommendation from a
non-family member must be submitted with the application.
- A 250-word essay on why the student
believes they deserve to be a scholarship recipient must be
submitted with the application.
